Little Picture

People do you see what is not seen?

People do you see what is not seen?

A Little Picture is appearing before you

People do you see what is not seen?

Do you see me?

Do you see me?

I come from a far away hill

Do you see me?

Long ago we danced below

Long ago we danced below

Dancing below the earth

Long ago we danced below

Together we had a dream

Together we had a dream

A People appears from the ground

Together we had a dream

Suzanne Kite [Oglála Lakȟóta descent] and Devin Ronneberg [Native Hawaiian descent
Inyan Iye (Telling Rock), 2019.
Virtual reality program and immersive sculptural installation.
Composed of song, power, sound, processors, machine learning decisions.

Ínyan Iyé (Telling Rock) interrogates the relationships among entities and intelligences. Through Oglála Lakȟóta ontologies, materials such as metals, rocks, and minerals can be capable of volition. Considering their “hearing” and “listening” capabilities makes possible a method of engagement that is rooted in mutual respect and responsibility. As Ínyan Iyé speaks, listeners may respond and interact with its braids, affecting its voice, color spectrum, and intensity and in turn. Ínyan Iyé listens to the changes in its own voice, creating a feedback loop with the listener.

Suzanne Kite is an Oglála Lakȟóta performance artist, visual artist, and composer raised in Southern California. Kite has developed a body interface for movement performances, carbon fibre sculptures, immersive video and sound installations, as well as co-running the experimental electronic imprint, Unheard Records.

Devin Ronneberg is a multidisciplinary artist born, raised, and living in Los Angeles, working primarily in sculpture, sound, image-making, networking, engineering, and computational media. His work is currently focused on the unseen implications of emergent technologies and artificial intelligence, information control and collection, and the radiation of invisible forces.
